*Late Review* Mei Lai Wah Bakery was a must stop location when I was in New York. Even when getting there at around 11 AM, there was already a line out of the door waiting for orders. For ordering, there is a kiosk outside and another inside as well. My friend and I ordered and waited outside, since it was crowded inside. I got the pineapple pork bun and a sesame ball. The pineapple pork bun had a perfect combination of sweet and savory! The sesame ball was crunchy on the outside, while having a red bean filling on the inside.

The pineapple pork buns are delish and definitely worth waiting for. The crust is flaky and buttery and you taste the meat at every bite. I only wish some of the meat isn't as fatty but nevertheless, i would still get it again!

Had to try the pineapple pork rolls that are so common here. I was prepared for a line, as most reviews show. There were only a few people in line when we showed up on a Sunday morning shortly after they opened. It was easy to walk up to the kiosk outside, place our order, and then go to collect it inside. If you're paying cash, they do have a cashier inside. The rolls were hot and fresh; getting a variety of the regular pork bun, the pineapple pork bun and pineapple custard bun. The favorite oddly was the regular pork bun. The pineapple topping tends to fall off and I was looking for a stronger taste. There's also nowhere to eat on the street, so you'll have to stand and eat or walk over a couple blocks to get a table. There's also a park at the bottom of the hill. I would go back, but there were so many options in the neighborhood that I would like to try them too.

Came here on a food tour and returned to get the pineapple pork bun again. It was so good. Initially the pineapple in a bun sounded very weird to me but it's the sweetness and crunchy exterior that gives it the pineapple bun name. Good amount of filling, sweet soft crunchy exterior bun. Very easy to order through a kiosk or cash window and you get your food rather quickly.

By far the best pork buns I've ever had. I ordered one steamed and one baked; I preferred the former but both were stellar -- the perfect ratio of filling to dough. (Sadly they were out of pineapple buns by the time we got there early afternoon.) The line moved fast -- note: if you're paying with cash, don't wait outside. And there are more kiosks inside too. But it's still sort of mayhem to get your stuff. Totally worth it though. Totally.

10000% worth the hype. You might have heard about this place for their signature pineapple pork bun -- well it's worth it. Add Chinatown in your itinerary just to stop by here for it. HAHA im serious, my boyfriend and I went back 3 times to get it again because it was SO good. Pro tip: try to go on a weekday before 3pm when theyre less busy they were made fresh, they are quick (just order at the kiosk) and eat it literally anywhere nearby. YUM! i miss it already

Came here on a Saturday around 6pm. There's two separate lines, cash or credit. I waited on the cash line and I would say it was a 25 minute wait. I got the pork bun for $1.95, I wanted to try the pineapple custard but it was sold out. It is a small space, there is no seating, and once you get inside it is cramped trying to navigate out. The bun itself was soft and pillowy, the inside was a decent amount of filling for $2. I was worried I would get some fatty pieces of pork, but did not. It is a sweet savory bbq pork taste.

I came around 10am on a Friday and there was barely a wait! I should've just went inside to order and pay but instead I ordered from the big iPads they have outside. A pro to that is that you can pay with card, but if you line up then it's cash only. After ordering I went inside and waited till my order was ready. I ordered the pineapple pork bun and it was so delicious! The pork was a good flavor and the pineapple bun part was tasty. I just felt like my bun wasn't quite as toasted so it tasted a bit "soft" and not crunchy/toasty.

Stopped by while waiting for my candle to set at another nearby business! Service was quick and the food lived up to the hype. Wait in line and order and pay on the kiosk outside or inside the store. Very small on the inside so not a place to stay and eat. Perfect to go to the park nearby to sit down and enjoy it. The pineapple bun was a little on the sweet side so next time I'll just go with the regular baked roast pork bun. The steamed roast pork bun was perfect!
